Jaleel Awini realized a childhood dream when he transferred from the Air Force Academy football program to the University of Colorado.
He spent two years as a quarterback for the Falcons but always wanted to play at CU. Unfortunately for him, the quarterback position was all locked up, and at six feet two inches and 220 pounds, the CU coaches wanted him to play linebacker.
“The biggest adjustment for me right now is just playing physical, going from the least physical position to the most physical position,” he said at the time. “That’s the biggest adjustment I have to work with. Other than that, I think I’m just learning a whole new side of the ball. I think it’s going well so far. I just have to keep working at it.”
“He’s doing a really good job,” said CU head coach Mike MacIntyre, about a week into fall camp. “He’s got speed and [he’s] running some things down. He’s catching on quick. He’s doing good. He’s also helping us on a lot of special teams and looks really good there.”
Jaleel Awini came to college ball as a very promising prospect, having won the Gatorade Colorado High School Player of the Year for 2010-11 at Rangeview High School in Aurora.
